Description

The new rules set by the Karnataka High Court are to make sure that women and transgender individuals working in or visiting the court are safe from sexual harassment.

  1. Sexual Harassment Prohibition: The new guidelines prohibit any kind of sexual harassment inside the Karnataka High Court, aiming to create a safer environment for everyone, especially women and transgender individuals.
  2. Complaints Committee Setup: The rules establish a committee dedicated to addressing complaints of sexual harassment. Anyone facing harassment in the court premises, including women and transgender persons, can file a complaint with this committee.
  3. Process for Handling Complaints: When a complaint is made, the committee is responsible for looking into it and deciding what action should be taken. This can include issuing warnings, taking disciplinary action, or, in extreme cases, referring the matter to the police.
  4. Awareness and Training: The court is committed to spreading awareness about sexual harassment, making sure that all individuals are educated on what constitutes harassment and the steps to prevent it. Regular training for employees and other people in the court will be conducted.
  5. Appeals Process: If someone believes that their complaint was not handled fairly, there’s an option to appeal the decision to higher authorities within the court system.
  6. Clear Prevention and Redressal Mechanism: The primary objective of these rules is to establish a clear and robust system for preventing harassment and offering a fair process for resolving complaints. The court is ensuring that anyone who comes forward with a harassment claim is heard and the issue is taken seriously.

In simple terms, the Karnataka High Court has created rules to ensure a harassment-free and respectful environment. If harassment happens, there is a clear way for victims to report it, and the court promises to take swift and fair action.
