Notification/Circular No.: CUS/CSD/MISC/20/2025

Document Date: February 7, 2025

Applicable Act/Rule: Customs Act,1962

  • The Container Scanning Division (CSD) of Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House (JNCH) has launched a new portal for checking the status of containers selected for scanning.
  • Stakeholders including Customs Brokers (CB), Importers/Exporters, Shipping Lines, Container Freight Station (CFSs), and Port Terminals can now check whether a container has been selected for scanning and whether it has been examined.
  • To use the portal, stakeholders need to enter the container number, IGM* number, and IGM date in the ‘Check Container Status’ section of the website (csd.jnpa.in).
  • The steps are as follows:
    • Open the website (csd.jnpa.in).
    • Click on “Check Container Status” on the home page.
    • Enter the Container No, IGM No, and IGM Date, then click on “Check Status”.
  • Stakeholders are advised to follow this procedure for checking the scanning status of containers.

* IGM stands for Import General Manifest in customs terminology. It is a document filed by the shipping line or the carrier with the customs department.

The IGM provides details about the cargo arriving at a port, such as:

  • Description of the goods
  • The consignee (importer)
  • Shipper details
  • Container numbers
  • The port of loading and discharge

The IGM serves as a key document for customs clearance procedures. Customs authorities use this to verify the shipment and its details before releasing the goods for import. It helps in tracking and managing imported goods arriving at the port.
