Launch of Aadhaar Good Governance portal

Document Date:  February 27, 2025

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has launched the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal (http://swik.meity.gov.in) to streamline the approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests. This initiative aims to enhance ease of living and improve access to services through better governance.

Key Highlights:

  • Legal Framework: The portal follows the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025, notified in January 2025 under the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

  • Objective: To increase transparency, inclusivity, and ease of service access for both government and private entities.

  • Expanded Aadhaar Authentication:
    • Entities (both government and private) can now use Aadhaar authentication for public interest services.
    • Aadhaar holders can access services in hospitality, healthcare, credit rating, e-commerce, education, and aggregator platforms more efficiently.
    • Service providers can verify customers, track staff attendance, and conduct e-KYC or exam registrations with ease.

  • Leadership Comments:
    • MeitY Secretary Shri S. Krishnan emphasised that this platform will speed up authentication approvals and expand its applications.
    • UIDAI CEO Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar highlighted that Aadhaar is a key enabler of India’s digital economy and good governance.

This initiative is expected to make Aadhaar-based transactions more seamless, secure, and widely accessible across various sectors.

The Aadhaar Good Governance Portal provides step-by-step guidance for entities applying for Aadhaar authentication. It supports face authentication integration in private apps and expands Aadhaar use beyond government entities.
Public feedback was sought in April-May 2023 before finalizing the amendments.
