Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has issued Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2025, mandating that 17 categories of aluminium and aluminium alloy products must conform to applicable Indian Standards and bear the BIS Standard Mark under a valid license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Date of implementation in general (other than micro and small enterprises): 1st October, 2025
Date of implementation for micro enterprises: 1st April, 2026
Date of implementation for small enterprises: 1st January, 2026
Provided further that the provisions of this Order shall not apply to goods or articles imported by manufacturers of aluminium products for research and development purposes, subject to the following conditions:
(a) The total quantity imported shall not exceed 200 kilograms per year;
(b) The imported goods or articles shall not be sold commercially and must be disposed of as scrap;
(c) The manufacturer shall maintain a year-wise record of such imports and submit the same to the Central Government on its official letterhead, duly signed by an authorised signatory.
Certification and enforcement authority: The Bureau shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the Table.
Penalty for contravention: Any person who contravenes the provisions of this order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
