EPFO Enhances Auto-Settlement Limit for Advance Claims to ₹5 Lakhs

Notification / Circular No. – PIB Release ID: 2139291 dated June 24, 2025

Applicable Act / Rule – Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952

EPFO had introduced auto-settlement of advance claims during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide timely financial assistance. Over time, the scope expanded to cover claims for illness, education, marriage, and housing. With rapid growth in digital processing, EPFO continues to enhance automation for faster and transparent service delivery.

Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has increased the auto-settlement limit for advance claims from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakhs. This enhancement will apply to claims made under permitted grounds such as illness, education, marriage, and housing. Claims falling within this revised limit will now be processed automatically by the system without human intervention within three days of submission, significantly reducing turnaround times and enhancing transparency.

This move builds on the momentum from previous years, where EPFO witnessed a sharp rise in automation. In FY 2024–25, EPFO processed a record 2.34 crore advance claims through the auto-mode, marking a 161% increase over the previous year, with 59% of all such claims handled automatically. In just the first two and a half months of FY 2025–26, 76.52 lakh claims nearly 70% of the total advance claims were already settled via auto-processing.
