Relevant Act(s)/Rule(s): Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011
The Food Safety and Standards Authority has issued new guidelines regarding the sampling of Vitamin D2. Previously, 500g samples were required as Vitamin D2 was categorized under “food not specified.” In response to representations about its high cost, Authorized Officers are now directed to collect 50g samples (two samples of 25g each) from imported consignments of Vitamin D2.
1. Sampling Quantity: For Vitamin D2, two 25g samples are now to be collected from imported consignments.
2. Return of Unused Sample: As per the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulation, 2017, any remaining safe sample must be returned to the food importer.
This directive aims to balance regulatory requirements with the high cost of the ingredient.
