The Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025 were finalized after considering public objections and suggestions to the draft rules published on 30th January 2024. These rules, issued by the Central Government, come into force on 1st April 2025. The rules aim to regulate the disposal, recycling, and management of vehicles that have reached the end of their useful life (EoL vehicles).

Key Highlights:

  • The rules apply to producers, registered owners, bulk consumers, registered vehicle scrapping facilities, collection centers, automated testing stations, and entities involved in testing, handling, and scrapping vehicles.
  • The rules exclude certain items like waste batteries, plastic packaging, waste tyres, used oil, and e-waste, as they are already covered under other specific regulations.
