This circular issued by the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) revises the categorization of industries based on their pollution potential under the Red, Orange, Green, and White categories, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines.

The circular aims to:

• Include industries not previously categorized under these four categories.
• Revise the categorization of Gate and Grill Manufacturing Units from Green to White category for those with a total load of less than or equal to 7.5 HP, as these units use a dry process (no heat treatment, painting or metal surface finishing operations). However, units with a load greater than 7.5 HP will remain in the Green category.
• Further, the circular introduces the categorization of additional units, such as:
  • Gamma Sterilisation Units as White category.
  • Automobile workshops with total HP less than or equal to 10 as Green category (with specified pollution control measures).
