In response to the Supreme Court’s directives, the Haryana government has extended the ban on the manufacturing, storage, sale (including online delivery), and bursting of all types of firecrackers in the National Capital Region (NCR) districts of Haryana. This ban is effective until further orders. The Supreme Court’s order dated January 17, 2025, mandates that the ban imposed by Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in the NCR regions be extended until further notice.

This extension aims to mitigate air and noise pollution in the NCR regions, aligning with the Supreme Court’s emphasis on the need for a permanent ban similar to Delhi’s approach. The Court has scheduled a review of compliance by the states on March 24, 2025.

“As regards the ban imposed on use etc. of firecrackers, our last order dated 19th December, 2024 records that the State of Rajasthan has imposed a similar ban in perpetuity in terms of the ban imposed by the Government of Delhi under the order dated 19th December, 2024. The State of Rajasthan has confined the ban to that part of the State that falls in the National Capital Region (NCR).

We direct the States of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to consider of taking a decision to impose a perpetual ban similar to the one which is imposed by the Delhi Government under the order dated 19th December, 2024 which is restricted to the NCR parts of the State. Till further orders are passed, the ban imposed by the States of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana limited to the NCR parts of the States which was effective till today is extended. The compliance by the States will be considered on 24th March, 2025 at the end of the cause list.”

Residents and stakeholders are advised to adhere strictly to this ban to contribute to cleaner air quality and public health.
