Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), through its directions dated February 12, 2025, mandated the harmonisation of industrial classification into Red, Orange, Green, White, and Blue categories. It also allowed State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) to categorise new or left-out sectors without requiring prior CPCB concurrence, provided a committee is constituted and prescribed criteria are followed.
Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) formed a committee of departmental technical heads on 19/05/2025 to identify new sectors under the White category defined as “practically non-polluting”. The committee has finalized a consolidated list of 222 New White category industries, expanding on the 56 sectors previously categorized by CPCB.
The list of 222 newly classified industries has been attached in the given link. In line with the SOP issued by MoEF&CC on 14/11/2024, these industries are now eligible to obtain consent through a streamlined self-declaration mechanism via the MPCB portal, removing the need for detailed inspection or processing of consent applications
