Notification/Circular No.: No. 18643-740 dated June 19, 2025
Applicable Act/Rule: Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1958
In order to streamline and digitise the process of registration under the Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, the Labour Department has introduced a structured workflow.
The circular outlines the registration workflow and clearly demarcates responsibilities across officials from scrutiny to final approval.
Key Steps are as follows:
All applications for registration under the Act will be processed within 10 working days.
The Labour Inspector (LI) will be responsible for scrutiny, raising objections, and processing applications falling under their jurisdiction.
If the LI fails to finalise the application within the time limit, it will be escalated to the Deputy Labour Commissioner (DLC) of the respective district.
The DLC has the authority to review complaints, oversee monitoring, and ensure that pending cases are resolved efficiently.
The process applies uniformly to all types of establishments, regardless of the number of employees.
