Notification/Circular No. – Guidance dated June 26, 2025
Applicable IS – IS 16270
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued guidelines for implementation of Amendment No. 1 to IS 16270:2023, covering secondary cells and batteries for solar photovoltaic applications. The amendment introduces modifications in scope, typographical corrections, and adds discharge current requirements for lithium batteries.
For existing licensees, compliance with the amendment is mandatory by December 08, 2025, through submission of third-party test reports for lead models and an undertaking for all other models under licence. Non-compliance will be dealt with as per prevailing guidelines.
For new applicants, applications submitted till December 08, 2025, may be processed with or without the amendment, provided applicants undertake to comply by the deadline. Beyond this date, licences will only be granted if the amendment is implemented.
For change in scope of licence, the same conditions apply, with applications without amendment allowed only until December 08, 2025.
These guidelines are effective immediately, ensuring standardisation and updated testing requirements for solar PV batteries.
