Background
The Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) Act, 1961 governs the collection and regulation of landing and shipping fees at ports in the State. To address changing economic conditions and ensure proper revision of fees, the Act has been further amended through the Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) (Amendment) Act, 2025.
Section 3(1) has been amended to allow the government not only to fix fees but also to revise them at periodic intervals. A proviso has been added to empower the government to increase or decrease fees by a prescribed percentage, based on inflation or other conditions, if revisions are not made in time. Additionally, Section 10(1) has been modified by omitting the requirement for “previous publication,” thereby simplifying the procedure for notifying changes.
