Government of Puducherry notifies the MSME Exemption Act, 2024 to simplify commencement of business by MSMEs in the Union Territory by providing exemptions from approvals and inspections.

• Puducherry Industrial Guidance Bureau (PIGB) designated as Nodal Agency to assist enterprises and maintain records of declarations.
• Enterprises submit a declaration of intent; Nodal Agency issues Acknowledgment Certificate effective as approval for 3 years.
• During 3 years, no inspections by Competent Authorities unless enterprise applies for specific permissions.
• Government/Authorities can exempt enterprises from central or local approvals for 3 years.
• Actions done in good faith under the Act are protected from legal proceedings.
• Act overrides inconsistent provisions of other laws including Town & Country Planning Act, Building Bye-Laws, Ground Water Act, Municipalities Act, and Panchayats Act.
• Government empowered to make rules and remove difficulties within 2 years from commencement.
