The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under the Ministry of Power, convened a meeting on July 15, 2025, chaired by the Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, to address issues and measures for improving the quality of power sector equipment and installations. The discussions focused on strengthening the national quality infrastructure for the power sector.
he Secretary (Power) emphasised enhancing Quality Assurance, Monitoring, Assessment, Enforcement, and the adoption of advanced technologies, including drone-based monitoring.
As per Section 73 of the Electricity Act, 2003, CEA has the authority to specify technical standards for construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical plants and grids, ensuring that all equipment conforms to national or international standards.
Mark to legally enforce quality standards through Quality Control Orders.
The Ministry of Power has also established a Standardisation Cell within the CEA to promote adoption of Indian Standards, identify new technologies, and reinforce compliance mechanisms.
All Power Sector Utilities — including Generation, Transmission, and Distribution entities — are required to submit within 15 days:
