The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2025 introduce specific clarifications concerning packages containing medical devices:

  1. Rule 2(h) – A proviso has been inserted to clarify that for medical device packages, declarations shall be governed by the provisions of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, rather than by the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules.
  2. Rule 7(2) – A proviso has been added specifying that for medical device packaging, the height of numerals and letters used in declarations shall comply with the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
  3. Rule 7(3) – Another proviso has been inserted stating that for medical device packages, the width of numerals and letters used in declarations shall be as per the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
  4. Rule 33 – The rule has been renumbered as Rule 33(1), and a new sub-rule (2) has been inserted. It explicitly states that the relaxations available under Rule 33 shall not apply where the Medical Devices Rules, 2017 are applicable.
