Gas Cylinders (Amendment) Rules, 2026 – Draft Notification

Applicable Section / Rule: Rule 48 of the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016, Form-C and Form-F of the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016

The Central Government has issued draft rules to amend the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016. The draft has been published for inviting objections or suggestions within thirty days from the date copies of the notification are made available to the public. The principal rules were earlier notified on November 22, 2016 and amended from time to time, including up to November 12, 2025.

  1. In the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016, Rule 48 shall be omitted;
  2. In the form-C of the said Rules, under the heading DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED WITH THIS APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE IN FORM E’, ‘F’ & G, clause (vi) shall be omitted.;
  3. In the form-F of the said Rules, in condition 8, after the clause (iv), the following shall be inserted, namely:-

“Provided further that for the Industrial gas Cylinders Higher stacking and lesser gangway may be permitted by the licensing authority if cylinders are packed in certified structured packing (racks, cages) with adequate straps, clips or interlocks to ensure integrity of cylinder, its fittings and proper manoeuvring of cylinders are ensured with these certified structured packing. The loading unloading procedure shall comply with the national or international codes.”;
