Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2026

The notification amends the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The draft rules were earlier published vide G.S.R. 76(E) dated January 30, 2026, and objections and suggestions received were considered by the Central Government.

The provisions apply to entries specified under Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Rule 81 is amended in the table against serial number (11A) to substitute the amount specified under column (3) in sub-items of item (d) and item (e).

The amount specified as “Five thousand rupees” is substituted with “Two thousand five hundred rupees” in the relevant entries.            

“1. Short title and commencement. — (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2026.

(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

  1. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, in rule 81, in the TABLE, against serial number (11A), in column (2), –

(i) in item (d), in sub-item (2), under column (3), for the entry “Five thousand rupees”, the entry “Two thousand five hundred rupees”, shall be substituted;

(ii) in item (e), in sub-item (2), under column (3), for the entry “Five thousand rupees”, the entry “Two thousand five hundred rupees”, shall be substituted.”
