Advisory on deployment of oneM2M standards based IoT solutions

Notification No./Circular No. – No. 4-63/2023-NT dated August 21, 2025

Applicable Act/Rule – Telecom Regulatory Framework (MTCTE, Standards & Certification)

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) have issued an advisory mandating deployment of oneM2M standards-based IoT solutions to strengthen India’s IoT ecosystem.

The TEC, being the nodal agency for standards and certification, has already adopted oneM2M Release 2 (2020) and Release 3 (2022) as national standards. These standards enable interoperability, device authentication, data security, and privacy, while reducing vendor lock-in.

The advisory highlights that proprietary IoT solutions have led to interoperability issues, higher costs, and security risks. By adopting oneM2M standards, stakeholders can ensure cross-domain applications, seamless integration, innovation, and consumer trust.

All Ministries, Departments, Government Organisations, IoT device manufacturers, and M2M service providers are advised to deploy oneM2M-based IoT solutions for creating secure and interoperable smart infrastructures across the country.
