Amendment in Import Policy Condition for Sulfadiazine API

Notification / Circular No – Notification No. 4J-I/2025-26 dated October 10, 2025

Applicable Act/Rule: Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992

The Government of India regulates imports of APIs under ITC (HS), 2022, Schedule-I to ensure compliance with trade policy and prevent undervaluation. Sulfadiazine API was previously freely importable.

Import of Sulfadiazine API with CIF value less than Rs. 1,774 per kg is now ‘Restricted’ until September 30, 2026. This restriction does not apply to imports by Advance Authorization holders, Export Oriented Units (EOUs), or units in SEZs, provided the imported inputs are not sold into the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA). Other APIs under Chapter 29 remain under existing import policy conditions.
