Amendment to the “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021”

Applicable Section/Rule: Section 16(1) and 16(2) read with Section 25(3) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016

Effective Date: November 5, 2026

Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 was originally published vide S.O. 1248(E) dated March 18, 2021, and has been amended on multiple occasions thereafter. The Central Government has issued the present amendment in exercise of powers under Section 16(1) and 16(2) read with Section 25(3) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The entry at Column 2 of S. No. 50 in the Schedule to the Order is substituted as follows:

Information Technology Equipment – Safety Part 1 General Requirements

The requirements for USB Type External Hard Disk Drives shall continue to be governed as per the existing notified provisions. For all other standalone Hard Disk Drives, the provisions of the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 shall apply with effect from November 5, 2026.

The amendment impacts manufacturers, importers, and sellers of standalone Hard Disk Drives, other than USB Type External Hard Disk Drives, operating within the scope of the said Order.
