Draft Central Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2026 – Vehicle Height for White Goods and Solar Panels

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification proposing amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The draft seeks to prescribe a maximum overall vehicle height of 4.50 metres for specified categories of goods vehicles engaged in transportation of white goods and photovoltaic solar panels/modules when such goods are packaged and stacked in multiple layers. The proposal covers N2 and N3 category motor vehicles as well as semi-trailers with tractors. Objections or suggestions from stakeholders may be submitted within 30 days from the date the notification is made available to the public, after which the draft rules will be taken into consideration by the Central Government.
