Ministry of Labour and Employment issued five notifications on May 13, 2026, under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. The notifications cover appointment of officers for specified functions under the Code and notification of working hour and rest interval limits for certain categories of workers.
By S.O. 2482(E), the Central Government appointed the Director General and Deputy Director General of the Directorate General Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes, Mumbai, as officers for composition of offences in case of dock work, with jurisdiction over all major ports.
By S.O. 2505(E), the Central Government appointed Regional Labour Commissioners (Central) and Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) across 21 regional offices — from Ahmedabad to Raipur — as Registering Officers for all establishments where the Central Government is the appropriate government under section 2(1)(d) of the Code. This notification supersedes six earlier notifications issued in December 2016 and November 2019.
By S.O. 2503(E), the Central Government appointed the Additional Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) and Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) across the same 21 regional offices as Appellate Authorities for the purposes of the Code, within their respective jurisdictional limits.
By S.O. 2516(E), the Central Government notified not more than eight hours for each shift in a day for persons employed in below-ground working of a mine.
By S.O. 2517(E), the Central Government notified not more than five hours of continuous work with an interval of at least half an hour, with effect from the date of publication of the notification.
