Seeding/Correcting Aadhaar in Universal Account Number (UAN)

Circular No./Notice No.  –  No: WSU/MemberProfile/E- 710137/2025-26126 dated August 13, 2025

Applicable Act/Rule – Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had introduced Aadhaar seeding with UAN in 2014 to enable direct service delivery and reduce processing time for member benefits. In January 2025, a simplified process allowed members to update their profiles directly if Aadhaar was verified with UIDAI, minimising employer or EPFO involvement.

The EPFO has now further simplified the Joint Declaration (JD) functionality for cases involving Aadhaar seeding or correction:

  • If UAN details (Name, Gender, DOB) exactly match Aadhaar, employers can seed Aadhaar directly via the KYC functionality in the Employer Portal without EPFO approval.
  • In case of mismatch in these details, employers can submit rectification requests online through the JD functionality.
  • If a wrong Aadhaar was earlier linked, employers can update the correct Aadhaar through JD and forward it to the Regional Office for approval.
  • If the employer is unavailable/establishment closed, members can submit a physical JD (Annexure I) attested by authorised authorities at the PRO counter, which will be entered into the JD functionality by EPFO staff.
  • All such Aadhaar seeding or correction requests will require approval at the APFC level, with due verification to ensure authenticity. Requests for changes in already Aadhaar-verified cases will not be entertained.
