The Central Government has issued a draft notification proposing the Tar-Balls Management Rules, 2026 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. These rules aim to regulate the management of tar-balls generated from oil spills and related activities, including their collection, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal. The draft notification has been published for public consultation, inviting objections or suggestions from stakeholders within sixty days from the date of its availability to the public.These rules shall be called the Tar-Balls Management Rules, 2026.These rules shall apply to all persons involved in production, collection, reception, storage, transportation, treatment, disposal, or management of tar-balls, including oil exploration facilities, ships, oil tankers, and oil installations.
