The State Government of Tripura has issued draft rules under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 and the Code on Wages, 2019 to operationalize the labour codes at the State level. These rules supersede multiple existing labour laws including Factories, Contract Labour, BOCW, Minimum Wages and Payment of Wages rules. The draft provides for digital compliance mechanisms, uniform registration, and standardized wage and working condition frameworks. The rules are open for objections and suggestions for a period of 45 days from publication in the Official Gazette.
         
         OSHWC Rules, 2026

  • Establishments shall obtain registration within 60 days; deemed approval after 30 days.
  • Electronic portal prescribed for registration, filings, and fee payment.
  • Registration fees prescribed based on employee strength (₹1,000–₹10,000).
  • Employers shall report accidents, dangerous occurrences, and diseases within prescribed timelines.
  • Safety Committee mandatory for establishments with 250 or more workers.
  • Annual medical examination of workers and issuance of appointment letters mandated.

    Wages Rules, 2026

  • Minimum wages to be fixed based on standard consumption, cost factors, and skill categories.
  • Employees categorized into unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled.
  • Normal working day fixed at 8 hours with rest interval and spread-over limits.
  • Weekly rest day and conditions for substituted rest prescribed.
  • Dearness allowance revision mandated twice yearly (before April 1 and October 1).
  • Provisions introduced for overtime, night shifts, and wage calculation methodology.
