West Bengal Lift, Escalator and Travelators Act, 2019

The West Bengal Lift, Escalator and Travelators Act, 2019, along with the Rules of 2022, was enacted to ensure the safe installation, licensing, operation, and maintenance of lifts, escalators, and travelators within the state. With the increasing use of mechanized vertical and horizontal transport systems in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces, the Act seeks to standardize safety measures, mandate qualified maintenance, and establish clear reporting mechanisms in case of accidents. It emphasizes accountability of owners, proper licensing, and the role of inspectors in monitoring compliance.

An updated structure of NIC code wise enterprises is not available in the state except only in respect of units/factories covered under the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI). The ASI covers relatively large units belonging to the manufacturing and repair sub-sectors which are registered under Section 2M (i) and 2M (ii) of the Factories Act 1948 or under the Beedi and Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act. for other sectors, large units/enterprises no such updated and satisfactory structure existed thus an industry based database is required to plan any survey of such units, such as the Survey of Non-Manufacturing Industries (SNMI), having establishments along with some basic items of information for all sub-sectors such as trade, hotels and restaurants was desirable.

Gujarat Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2019

The Gujarat Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2019 was enacted to regulate the employment conditions of workers in shops, commercial establishments, residential hotels, restaurants, theatres and other establishments across Gujarat. It replaced the earlier Act with an objective to ensure better regulation of service conditions, enhance worker welfare, and bring uniformity in compliance through digitized processes.

Gujarat Lifts and Escalators Act, 2000

The Gujarat Lifts and Escalators Act, 2000, was enacted to ensure the safe installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of lifts and escalators in the state. Karnataka Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2017

The Karnataka Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2017 was enacted to ensure the safety and security of the general public in establishments that attract large gatherings. The Act provides for mandatory installation and operation of surveillance systems, trained personnel to handle security equipment, and submission of periodical returns to authorities. It seeks to strengthen public safety measures across commercial establishments, industrial units, educational institutions, religious places, transport hubs, and other areas prone to large public congregation.

Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954

The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 was enacted to prohibit misleading advertisements of drugs and remedies that claim to have magical or miraculous effects. The Act aims to protect consumers from false claims related to the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, or prevention of diseases, particularly serious or life-threatening conditions. It ensures that all advertisements regarding drugs and remedies are truthful, scientifically substantiated, and not deceptive.

The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 was enacted to regulate the import, manufacture, distribution, and sale of drugs and cosmetics in India. Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954

The Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954 was enacted to regulate conditions of work and employment in shops, commercial establishments, restaurants, theatres and other establishments in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Act lays down provisions related to registration, hours of work, rest intervals, opening and closing hours, holidays, wages, leave, health and safety, employment of women and children, and other aspects of working conditions.

Andhra Pradesh Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013

The Andhra Pradesh Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013 was enacted to ensure safety and security in establishments that attract large public gatherings. The Act mandates provisions for surveillance, video recording, trained personnel, and other safety infrastructure in establishments such as malls, multiplexes, hotels, restaurants, banks, religious places, educational institutions, convention centres, and other notified areas.
